If I am being honest authentic Mid-Century Modern furniture can be a bit pricey for the majority of us and truth be told unless you live in a true MCM home you may not see the value in furnishing your entire house time period correct.

In our opinion shopping for Mid-Century Modern furniture and decor takes time, patience, a great eye, and one or two incredible industry insiders that you can lean heavily on. Providing our 2 cents for our readers I could give you a few very simple directions to follow, although not entirely full proof will give you some variety and allow you to explore a few internet rabbit holes to keep you entertained.

  • If your're looking for UBER original peices but do not want to deal with weekend second hand yard sales and haggling with flea market folks give www.modernica.net a try. A lot of people are unaware that Modernica still holds and uses original molds and drawings for furniture, in fact own many of the patents for case study pieces. Additionally if your're looking for inspiration don't hesitate to call their showroom in California and simply ask for help.
  • Instagram Instagram Instagram....... We follow many of our favorite re-sellers and MCM enthusiasts to find pieces all the time to use for our own projects. Here is a few to follow we are very bullish on: midcenturysalvage, sunbeam_vintage, vamptvintagedesign, revivedupholstery.
  • Now back to Modernica before I forget to mention another amazing fact regarding lighting. Did you know Modernica makes the majority of all re-production MCM lighting you see all over the internet. Just like their furniture Modernica holds many original drawings and designs for their lighting as well. Just saying you can have your cake and eat it too.
  • Another quirky but effective way to get some original pieces may be knocking on the door of a home you've had your eye on for a while. You may not get to buy any furniture but more important you will hopefully get some insight and meet a new person who is just as excited to share with you their home as you are to experience it, and you never know maybe one day they can help you find a few items your looking for.
  • Pinterest can be helpful but I wouldn't put all my faith in pictures pinned as true originals.
  • Craigslist can score you something here and there but I can tell you it will be very difficult to beat the pro's to the good stuff. My advice check for the estate sales you'll have more luck.

Keep in mind if you're going full speed ahead time period correct and attempting to furnish and design the interior of your home, condo, etc you will make a few mistakes along the way. Simple answer to why is you will change what you like as you find new pieces and your style evolves.

Don't forget Mid-Century Modern decor and furniture also had it's space age futuristic era and you'll need to incorporate that as well. Good luck and keep staying MCM original!!
